Beauty Blogger’s Corner Part I

It is more often than not that I discover new products through the bloggersphere so I thought it would be an interesting project to get together a bunch of beauty bloggers and find out what their responses were to the beauty related questions I fired at them. There will be beauty tips as well as product and brand recommendations so be sure to keep a pen and paper handy because if you’re like me, you’ll be adding a few new products to your shopping list. This will be a two part series (otherwise the post would have just been a way too long).  Here’s how Part I went down….

What one makeup product do you always have in your handbag and would not get caught leaving the house without?

Has to be my MAC Studio Fix powder, its great for a touch up and I get it in a shade darker than my foundation so it doubles up as a bronzer also if I am feeling a little flat! (probably shouldn’t admit to that!, but it works a treat!)

What’s your favourite drugstore/high street brand? and high end brand?

I’m loving Bourjois at the moment, I love finding good dupes and my mum has always brought me up with the knowledge that Bourjois is owned by the same people as Chanel and a lot of their products have really similar formulas.

Favourite High End Brand – Nars is the ultimate favourite for me!  Their matte multiple lasts forever and it would be the one thing I’ll be still buying when im 80!!!

What’s the one best makeup trick you have up your sleeve?

I would say contouring but nowadays that really isn’t that much of a secret! Thanks Kardashians! … I always apply my under eye concealer in a triangle shape down the sides of the nose and under the eye and blend outwards, it highlights the face in all the right places, plus ALWAYS buy your under eye concealer in a lighter colour than your foundation!

Which celebrity makeup look do you love?

Cara De Levigne never puts a foot wrong in my eyes! I love her smoky eye she does so perfectly – if only I could imitate those brows of hers!! For every day looks my all time style and beauty crush is Olivia Palermo, actually maybe Millie Mackintosh! They’re both incredible and I can never pick between the two! But their makeup is so subtle but incredible!

Foundation or tinted moisturiser?

Foundation!!! I have fair skin so tinted moisturiser just never does the trick for me when I want to hide my freckles! I love Elizabeth Arden Flawless Finish at the moment.

What one makeup product do you always have in your handbag and would not get caught leaving the house without?
It would most definitely have to be my Manuka Doctor Lip Enhancer as it helps keep lips conditioned during cold and hot weather conditions and also plumps them at the same time, just love it!!
What’s your favourite drugstore/high street brand? and high end brand?
My favourite High Street brand would be Maybelline as for High End I would have to go with either Illamasqua or YSL.
What’s the one best makeup trick you have up your sleeve?
Always highlight the cupids bow for larger looking lips and the brow bone for more defined eyebrows and a strong arch.
Which celebrity makeup look do you love?
I love Kim Kardashians contouring techniques and Jennifer Lawrences neutral approach to make-up.
Foundation or tinted moisturiser?
Foundation.

What one makeup product do you always have in your handbag and would not get caught leaving the house without?
Body shop All-in-one-face base  is the item I’ll always have in my bag. It’s the perfect product to cover any flaws and is my lifesaver for all occasions.
What’s your favourite drugstore/high street brand? and high end brand?
My favourite drug store brand is Barry M, the colour range of their nail polishes is incredible! I also love makeup from the Body Shop and my day-to-day makeup is all from their range. As for high end makeup I love MAC, their products are all great quality and reliable (but sometimes I can’t warrant spending that much money on something which’ll only end up on a makeup wipe at the end of the day.)
What’s the one best makeup trick you have up your sleeve?
Once applying eye shadow to your brows with a brow brush, get a fine hair comb and run some hair wax along the edge. Then comb through the eyebrows and hair spray, it’ll help keep your eyebrows in tact all day, without the shadow rubbing off!
Which celebrity makeup look do you love?
I love the way Kim Kardashian highlights her face, although I’m not a great fan of her, the technique for highlighting she uses is great. When you see her with and without makeup there’s such a huge difference and that’s all thanks to some nifty contouring. I don’t like the amount of makeup she wears though, often she goes for the ‘caked-on’ look.
Foundation or tinted moisturiser?
Foundation over tinted moisturiser for me – after years of fake tanning that often went wrong, I live a little in fear of ending up like an umpa-lumpa!

What one makeup product do you always have in your handbag and would not get caught leaving the house without?
Just one?! I usually lug a big make up bag with me everywhere. But if I am only carrying a small clutch I only take the lip product I am wearing that day.
What’s your favourite drugstore/high street brand? and high end brand?
My favourite high street brand is L’Oréal because I think their quality and packaging are quite resemblant to high end products. I really like E.L.F. too, especially their Studio line. For the high end brand  Chanel. One can never go wrong with Chanel, whether it is clothes, accessories or makeup.
What’s the one best makeup trick you have up your sleeve?
Less is more. Ok, that is not really a trick, but some orange-resembling fake tan fanatics and three-pairs-of-false-lashes-wearers should probably follow it.
Which celebrity makeup look do you love?
I like the old school celebrities  Audrey Hepburn, Brigitte Bardot, Grace Kelly Sun-kissed skin, a subtle (or not so subtle) eyeliner flick, and either a flattering nude or a glossy red lip.
Foundation or tinted moisturiser?
Foundation, always. And tinted moisturiser below that. I do like only a thin layer of each, though. My skin doesn’t even need such a heavy coverage, but I guess it has become a part of my comfort zone to always have a “full face” on.

What one makeup product do you always have in your handbag and would not get caught leaving the house without?

I’m not the kind of girl who has products in my bag but a lipbalm is always on there and Mac snob lipstick. I never leave the house without mascara on!

What’s your favourite drugstore/high street brand? and high end brand?

Ooh this is tough but ysl for highend and rimmel for drugstore.

What’s the one best makeup trick you have up your sleeve?

Powder before foundation, trust me! It makes the foundation last longer and look flawless

Which celebrity makeup look do you love?

I love Holly Willoughbys make up its always so bright and fresh looking.

Foundation or tinted moisturiser?

Defo Foundation, i love the flawless high coverage look.

What one makeup product do you always have in your handbag and would not get caught leaving the house without?
I always carry around powder, I tend to get a little oily throughout the day and so I always have a powder thrown in my makeup bag just in case of shiny emergencies!
What’s your favourite drugstore/high street brand? and high end brand?
I really like Rimmel, I feel like they offer a strong selection of products for all categories and I’m yet to try anything I’ve not actually liked! In terms of high end brands, my favourite would have to be Urban Decay. Again, I’m yet to try anything I haven’t liked and they’re constantly re-formulating to try and improve.
What’s the one best makeup trick you have up your sleeve?
I don’t really have any makeup tricks, I feel like the majority of “tricks” I have are actually apart of most people’s routine already but two things that you should always remember: 1. clean your brushes weekly to prevent spreading of bacteria and 2. not all products are worth the hype!
Which celebrity makeup look do you love?
I love a lot of celebrity makeup looks, I’m not really one to stick to one makeup look, I like to swap and change my look daily depending on the weather, my mood ect.
Foundation or tinted moisturiser?
Foundation, always. I’m definitely a high coverage kinda gal.

What one makeup product do you always have in your handbag and would not get caught leaving the house without?
It has to be powder. I have oily/combination skin, so having a shiny face is one of the biggest things I worry about, when I’m out all day, so a translucent pressed powder is a must, as well as a fluffy brush. I’m loving Soap & Glory’s ‘One heck of a blot’.
What’s your favourite drugstore/high street brand? and high end brand?
My favourite high street brand would have to be Revlon. It’s a classic company, and I adore all of their products, as you can create an amazing face with all of their products. My favourites would be their Photoready Primer, their Matte Balms and their new Parfumerie Nail Enamels. For high end, I don’t have a great deal of experience with them, but one product that does no disappoint, is Nars’ Velvet Matte Lip Pencil is Cruella. It’s a gorgeous statement red, and I think Nars is a brand that delivers on quality.
What’s the one best makeup trick you have up your sleeve?
I think it would be to contour, as a lot of people tend to struggle with the idea and the technique of it, but I think it’s something that’s so simple once you know how, and so effective, as it makes the face look slimmer and wonderfully defined.
Which celebrity makeup look do you love?
I love Dita Von Teese’s retro look, as it’s so glamorous, and I adore the idea of pale, matte skin with defined brows, winged line and glorious red lips. It’s such a classic look that can be worn again and again, and it can be translated for all ages, onto any skin type or colour. She’s a definite icon for me.
Foundation or tinted moisturiser?
I would have to say foundation, as when i’m having a bad skin day, tinted moisturiser just isn’t going to cut it, i’m afraid, hehe. But on a good day, i’ll just whack on some concealer and mosey on off – tinted moisturiser isn’t really my cup of tea.

What one makeup product do you always have in your handbag and would not get caught leaving the house without?
I always have a lipstick or a lip balm in my bag. I am loving the No.7 lipstick in classic rose at the moment, and I always have a Nuxe reve de miel lip balm stick on hand if I need it!
What’s your favourite drugstore/high street brand? and high end brand?
My favourite drugstore brand would have to be L’oreal. I love their foundations and primers so much! My favourite high end would be a tie between Benefit and Nars. Both brands have such amazing products.
What’s the one best makeup trick you have up your sleeve?
One make up tip I suggest is not to apply too much under eye concealer. It is really easy to go in heavy handed and put too much on, making your under eyes look more obvious. I try and dap a little bit of concealer on at a time, blending it in before going back to apply more if I need it.
Which celebrity makeup look do you love?

I love the Olsen twin’s make up. I really like the way they line their eyes with a brown liner, and their brows always look flawless. They never look overly made up, and I really like that look.

Foundation or tinted moisturiser?

I would always go for a tinted moisturiser. I especially love the Dr Jarts BB cream and the Garnier BB cream is great too! I don’t have bad skin usually in the summer time, and I prefer to let my skin breathe, rather than piling on the foundation.
That’s all for part one.  As you can see there are some very different awnswers from our beauty bloggers which makes for a very interesting read. Stay tuned if you want to see more as I”ll be popping up the second part of Beauty Blogger’s Corner later this week (although I’m away on holiday so that’s provided I have Wifi-fingers crossed).  Until then, take Care x
