Carli Bybel is one of the latest beauty Youtubers to collaborate with a cosmetics brand (BH Cosmetics) to produce a limited edition 14 Color Eyeshadow and Highlight palette. I’ve watched Carli for a while now and it’s clear to see that she genuinely loves the BH Cosmetics brand so a collaboration between the two seemed natural. BH Cosmetics is not so readily available over here in the UK, however, I have dabbled with it in the past when I first got into makeup. I picked up one of those 88 shade eyeshadow palettes online which are really quite inexpensive. They aren’t the best of quality in terms of the textures and pigmentation but you’re paying next to nothing for them so I don’t think you can expect too. For me, it was a way of dabbling in colours without having to spend a fortune especially as I’m a neutral girl through and through. So when it was revealed that Carli had produced a palette with BH, I did question the quality of the palette. However, I was surprisingly proved wrong.

The quality of the palette I think almost exceeds the price point. It retails for $20 and contains 14 eyeshadows and highlights, or rather 10 eyeshadows of which half are mattes and half are metallics, and 4 larger highlights which can essentially all be worn as eyeshadows. It’s a very neutral toned palette with a little bit of purple thrown in and is very much a day through to night palette with a nice mix of soft, lighter shades complimented with rich, darker tones.
Here’s a breakdown of each of the shadows/highlights:
1. Matte, warm, creamy beige. Soft to the touch and easy to blend. Very brightening so great for an all over lid shade or as a brow bone highlight.
2. Metallic, pearlescent warm peachy pink. Nice all over lid shade for an everyday eye look.
3. Matte, mid tone deep mauvey tan shade which would make a really nice transitional shade. Soft and easy to blend although there is a bit of kick up so make sure to tap off the excess.
4. Matte, muted, dusky plum shade. Again very soft and slightly more crumblier in texture so need to be careful of fall out. Makes for a nice crease shade for neutral eyes and purple smokey eyes.
5. Matte, deep, warm purple that would make a great alternative to a brown.
6. Metallic, soft, rose gold. Not overly metallic, rather subtle.
7. Metallic, warm gold, has more of a foiled finish compared to the last.
8. Metallic, rich bronze.
9. Metallic copper – texture on this isn’t as soft as the others so you need to press slightly harder to pick up the pigment.
10. Cool, khaki brown. This one also suffers from fall out.

So my overall thoughts? I am pleasantly surprised as I do think that the quality of this palette is much better to what I previously remember with their mass made 88 shade palettes. The product is much more smooth, soft, pigmented and easy to blend. You can’t go wrong with a neutral palette as it’s so versatile and will suit pretty much every single skin tone and eye colour. My only reservation is that a few of the shades are inconsistent with the rest of the palette whether it be slightly too soft and therefore crumbly and prone to fall out, or not quite as pigmented when applied on the skin. In terms of the shades, I would be inclined to swap the brown shadow to a much more deeper neutral brown, swap one of the metallic shadows for a matte black, and then swap out one of the plum tones for more of a warm orange/red tone brown. Whilst this is anything but a unique palette, as I think the shades and tones can be found in a lot of palettes already out there,  it is limited edition and for the price point, I think if you get the opportunity to pick one up then definitely do.
Have you tried the Carli Bybel palette? It’s currently on sale for $12.50 on the BH Cosmetics website.
